Barbara Moore Hayes
Principal + Founder
With deep experience across the nonprofit sector, Barbara works collaboratively with high-impact social sector, healthcare, and educational nonprofit organizations to drive evidence-based mission impact and growth. She has grown and diversified fundraising and earned-income revenue, strengthened mission branding, engaged and motivated teams, advised, trained, and engaged boards, and developed strategic visions for sustainable growth and success.
Anchored in an organization’s mission and values, Barbara consults with clients that range from large, complex healthcare institutions including Boston Medical Center (BMC), Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital — Plymouth, and Cambridge Health Alliance to small and mid-sized nonprofits such as The Builder Coalition, Social Innovation Forum, and Boston Food Forest Coalition.
At BMC, Barbara applied her strategic expertise in a three-year consultation with a cross-section of senior medical, administrative, and board leaders from Boston Medical Center, Boston University School of Medicine, and the Boston University Medical Group (BUMG), leading the development of a strategic plan for building an equitable, vital, and inclusive workplace for their more than 1100 medical faculty. She was subsequently asked to serve as the senior administrative lead during the first year of the groundbreaking BUMG Office of EVI, leading the project team on multiple campus-wide initiatives in each EVI area, tracking progress toward strategic goals, overseeing internal communications, and leading the research team’s design and initial data collection of quantitative and qualitative metrics for objective and ‘felt’ progress toward EVI goals.
Barbara’s educational and professional experience reflects her commitment to equitably improving the lives and learning of people in global communities. Experience includes her role as Director of Development and Strategic Partnerships at the Wellesley Centers for Women, a leader in gender-based research informing policy and programs. As Executive Director of Beyond Conflict, an innovative global conflict resolution organization, she led the team and board in a collaborative process for the development of a ten-year strategic vision, Building New Frameworks For Peace | Our 2025 Roadmap. The related long-term financial scenario planning laid the groundwork for a $5M seed investment grant and the subsequent establishment of The Beyond Conflict Innovation Lab, an incubator for work linking research insights from behavioral science to global conflict resolution.
Earlier in her career, in both governance and subsequent senior staff roles, she led the board and staff of Bay Farm Montessori Academy through the complex merger of the for-profit preschool-K program with its nonprofit 1st-6th grade ‘sister’ school, the fundraising and land acquisition to support it, and the first accreditation process for the newly formed PreK-6th grade school. Additionally, with funding from the World Bank and others, she has consulted in Asia and the Global South with small-scale women’s businesses and cooperatives.
Barbara holds an Ed.M. in Human Development from Harvard University Graduate School of Education and a B.A. in International Relations & Women’s Studies from Hampshire College.
